FAQ.

How big of a file can I transfer with it?

There is a 10GB file size limit built-in, however, in practice you maybe unable to send files that large. NekoSend encrypts and decrypts the files in the browser which is great for security but will tax your system resources. For the most reliable operation on common computers, it's probably best to stay under a few hundred megabytes.

How long are files available for?

Files are available for download within 72 hours, after which they are deleted from the server. Sometimes due to sync delays (~24 hours), files may stay on server for 96 hours, but they will eventually be cleaned up according to lifecycle rules.

Where will my files be stored?

We are using Cloudflare R2 Storage and Contabo Object Storage as file storage, they all have excellent reliability and speed. Requests are automatically balanced and failover between storages to avoid delays and errors

How are files encrypted?

The file is encrypted when uploading by following the steps below

1. new secret key is generated with crypto.getRandomValues

2. The secret key is used to derive more keys via HKDF SHA-256

3. The file and metadata are encrypted with their corresponding keys

4. The encrypted data and signing key are uploaded to the server

5. The secret key is appended to the share url as a #fragment and presented to the UI

Can I share download link with others?

NekoSend treats Content as confidential and does not control the use of download links. You are solely responsible for the Content you upload and share.

How would you deal with abuse?

Upon abuse report received, We will review the request and delete the file if applicable. Files only stay on the server for 72 hours (sometimes 96 hours due to sync reason), so requests beyond this time will be ignored.

where can i see your source code?

All encryption operations are in ./serviceWorker.js, you can check all logic by looking at that script.

Can you see the contents of my file?

No, neither Cloudflare nor NekoSend can read your uploads without the key. Metadata and content are encrypted, and the decryption key is in your hands.
